Choosing your Freshwater Aquarium Fish

Researching livestock, before you make a purchase, is critical. You want to know exactly what you're getting into as far as fish size, requirements, preferences, potential problems, etc.  There is one site in particular, FishProfiles.com,  where you can choose the water type, size of your freshwater aquarium, and go more specific from there.  Start here and research your fish before you get them.

It is very important not to overcrowd your tank.  The general rule is one inch of fish per gallon.  However, that is far too many fish for a healthy environment.  This is where common sense comes in.  Patience is key in fishkeeping.  Choose a few, see how they do, and add more later.
